Start > Run > On the box write 'Regedit'-----open the Registry editor.

Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows >
Click Current version.
On the right side window you can find the product id or serial number.
Write down the serial number in a note book. It will be safe.
